As work at home moms, there is nothing more important than maintaining our work, life balance. Regardless of our childcare situation, we have to be as efficient as possible with our time so that we can create results during our work hours and focus our attention on our family responsibilities when not working. Social Media is a powerful tool to help us communicate our product and service, but it can also become distracting.
I've been on Facebook since college and just recently started tweeting. On Facebook, I quickly became a fan of word games. My husband and I regularly host game night, so you could definitely say I am a "gamer." But, I soon found myself getting a little too excited about my latest Scrabble word. When you're husband starts making jokes about you and Scrabble, you know you play too much. I decided there were more important things for me to do with that half hour and I deleted ALL game-related Facebook Applications. It felt kind of like cleaning out a junk drawer - freeing and gratifying. Now, I'm loving the feed "Hide" option and hide any game related feed that comes in. Doing this has allowed me to be more productive with my social media time.
If you find that social media is becoming a distraction and as a work at home mom, you're not feeling that work, life balance, I would encourage you to delete the apps that are pulling your attention away from more meaningful actions. Clean out that junk drawer! I promise, you won't look back!
