The formation of diamond requires very high pressure and temperature conditions, that do not effectively occur frequently in nature, which is the reason behind diamonds being so precious and priceless. Colored diamonds are more difficult to find as they not only require the specific temperature and pressure as is required for colorless diamond formation but they also require a good another element nearby to take over a specific color. For example, when exposed to nitrogen, the color of a diamond turns yellow, the greater the concentration of nitrogen, more intense will be the color.
The different color shades are, categorized according to an alphabetical scale that starts from grading the colorless or pure white diamond as D and goes up until Z which refers to a very light yellow color. Beyond Z the diamonds are categorized as fancy or vivid colored diamonds, therefore, the yellow diamonds after Z are categorized as Canary or fancy yellow diamonds. These diamonds exhibit a perfect yellow hue and are quite rare to find. In addition to the color, diamonds are also, graded according to the intensity of a given color in four different categories as light, fancy, intense or vivid. The higher the color intensity the more precious a diamond is.
Yellow diamond is quite famous among the colored variety. Oahu is the choice of fashionable, prestigious and cultured women everywhere across the planet. It isn't very difficult to apply and goes with every color. However, will still be not that popular as white or colorless diamond. The initial yellow diamond was, discovered in 1866 in South Africa. It weighed 10.7 carats and it was, named Eureka. It was also the first ever diamond to be authenticated in Africa.
There are several famous yellow diamonds in history. One of these is a canary diamond called Red Cross diamond, with a prominent Maltese cross present on its upper surface. This diamond was, presented to Christies from the British Red Cross Society. Another famous one is, called “Incomparable”, so named for the large size and heavy weight (407.48 carats). The story of its discovery is quite amusing; it was, found by a little girl, while playing in dirt, in her little town of Mbuji Mayi in Congo. This can be a world’s third largest diamond and is the largest diamond with no internal imperfections.
There is another canary diamond in history, owned by the famous Medicis of Florence. The diamond was 140 carats in weight and in 1743 was, transferred to Emperor Francis I, who used this ornament to decorate his crown. No body has any clue regarding the present location and owner of this diamond.
