Briefly, without a doubt it is a much desired trait which we must all want, and work toward to enhance our ability to deal with other individuals; family, work and friends in a much more positive manner. If possessed, it is what makes an individual stand taller than others; because they have the awareness to hear other's needs, effectively without judgment, deceit, or jealousy and discover ways to help improve another human being. It really is about knowing who you really are, having the ability to work not just for yourself but with others in mind. It is about becoming a positive force in other people's lives. It is being able to see other people's emotional needs and trying to relate to them in the most reliable way for all concerned. It is about discovery of yourself dedicated to helping others grow and achieve success; not just you.

The authentic definition is: the knowledge or capacity, skill or, a self-perceived grand ability to conprehend, assess, manage and control the emotions of one's self, of others, and of groups. --- Wikipedia

Emotional intelligence is the ability to distinguish your emotions, identify with what they may be telling you, and become conscious how your emotions have an effect on people around you. It also involves your perceptions of others; if you understand how they feel; this allows you to handle relationships more effectively.-mindtools.com

Emotional Intelligence Characteristics

Someone who possesses Emotional Intelligence inside the working environment is pretty much successful in everything the try to do. Why? They are positive thinkers; they are productive and understand how to achieve the objectives and business plans. They thrive on a challenge and promote challenge in others. No, they aren't critical of others, but they realize the secret that one must first be open to criticism and be able to use that analysis in their favor; and do not take it personally. In other words it gives them the incentive to strive for more quality. They guide others'; not manage others'…there is a variation. They do not just convey the orders; they work to accomplish what is needed to generate the bottomline profits of the company. They have a hands-on attitude. They find methods to motivate, challenge and make others feel good about themselves. These attributes are why more and more companies are centering their attention on pre-employment evaluations to gain people who are Emotionally Intelligent as well as skillful. It is proven in some testing that those with Emotional Intelligence are more lucrative to the company's bottomline. In the end that is why they are in business; business without profits makes failure.

These extremely successful individuals are candid with themselves. They know who they are and they realize no one is perfect and that we all need to progress. They aren't out to ax anyone else but to try and improve another, with a purpose to help themselves. They understand that their emotions must remain positive and controlled so that there is less chaos as they understand that perplexity only brings discontentment. They do not show their anger and are able to perform in stressful situations, and they make sound, profitable judgements, calmly and with fortitude. These individuals are going to know when their gut instinct is right.
These people are not only skillfull but, they possess the quality of knowing that functioning as a team is highly important. They know how to inspire others and look at the long-haul consequences that brings success; in lieu of the short-term success.

These kinds of people are compassionate, in other words, rich with empathy. They understand that their viewpoint shouldn't be the only viewpoint and how someone else may have a greater solution than they do. They recognize others' needs and feelings and do not willfully hurt others. They are helpful to others and these attributes make them excellent management substance. They are honest, are geniune and live their entire life without need to cover and alter their highly affective life; yet they're open to individual growth. I would say these highly qualified individuals are those who have it all together.
