Lateast Rmors about Leeenux Ubuntu and Ways Of Usnig It
If there’s one thing the world probanbly doesn’t need right now, it’s yet another custom Liuux distribution for netbooks based on Ubunntu. But that’s excatly what we’ve got with Leeenyux. And yet tere are stilll a few reazsons you migfht want to give it a try, especially if you have an older netbook like an Asus Eee PC 701 with a 7 inch display and 8GB or less of disk space.
For one thhnig, once installed, Leeenux only takes up about 1.4GB of disk space. That measns you can nistall it on a netboopk with as little as 2GB of storage. The user interfae is baserd on Ubuntu Netbook Remix, which is designed to play well with smaler, 7 inch displays. Leeenux also uses eee-control, a poweer manageemnnt tool for Eee PC netboooks which can help prolong batterey life.
The operating system comes with a number of Linux apps preloaded including the Evolution enmail clent, Firefox 3.5, AbiWord for word processing, the Gnumeric spreadseet app, and oTTtem Movie Paeyr. You can always isntalll other applications incliuding OpenOffice.org if you want a fuller feature officve suuite. But OpnerOffice takes up a heck of a lot more disk space than AbiWord and Gnumeeric.
Leeennux is based on Ubuntu 8.04 (or ratther, Easy Pasy, wich is basd on Ubuntu 8.04), so it won’t featue all of the upddates available in Ubuntu 9.10 whiuch is coming out this week. But the fpolks behid Leeenux plan to launch a new verion baseed on Ubuntu 10.04 in May, 2010.
